TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

TOWN OF GUILDERLAND

Minutes for Committee Meeting on August 23, 2007

Note: Due to a lack of quorum, no official vote was taken at this meeting.

Attendees:      Present: - Lieutenant Cox, Mike Hotaling, and Jerry Houser who recorded the minutes.

Absent: Minnie Lee, Patricia Slavick, Betty McGowan, Norine Molloy, Joe     Hallenbeck and Scott Snide

Meeting began at 7:15 PM.

Unfinished Business

1) East Lydius Street at Lone Pine Road – Mike reported that the traffic study covered the period 6 AM to 8 AM and that the 85 percentile was 38 and 40 MPH in both directions.  In order to qualify for a four-way stop as requested by complainant, traffic should be about equal in both directions or too much stacking; neither is the situation here. T/B/C

2) West McKown Road – Request for truck restrictions.  Previous meeting determined that no action would be taken. N/F/A

3) Prescott Woods – Traffic calming request.  Police have done extra patrols. Road is designed to calm traffic, i.e., curbs, curved roads, etc.  Signage is correct. T/B/C for a vote.

4) Empire at Bostonian – As a follow-up to last TSC meeting, a traffic study was completed which indicates the 85th percentile in the 24 MPH to 26 MPH range.  Signage is appropriate.  A vote will be taken at the next TSC meeting. T/B/C

5) Cornell Avenue – On hold pending discussions between the Town officials and complainants.

New Business

1) East Lydius at Bellview – As requested by complainant, Mike will proceed to install a blind intersection sign on East Lydius facing eastbound traffic. N/F/A

2) 7333 Church Road – Complainant requests additional speed limit sign and children-at-play sign.  Mike stated that both ends of the street have children-at-play signs and the street is too short for another speed limit sign.  Mike will check the length of the street. T/B/C

3) Newman Road at Zorn Road and Newman Road at Church Road – Mike stated that trimming of brush at both intersections should be adequate to improve visibility.

4) Northgate Drive – Children-at-Play sign is already installed on Northgate.

5) Veeder Road at Prescott – Stop sign inappropriate on Veeder as this is a through street.  Mike will do some trimming to improve visibility of cars traveling on Veeder Road. N/F/A
