The Chief of Police is the chief executive officer of the Guilderland Police Department and is responsible for the protection of lives and property through the supervision of all police functions. The Chief of Police is responsible for organizing, controlling, and directing the personnel and resources of the police department.

Free Firearm Safety Kits
The Guilderland Police Department has partnered with Project ChildSafe to offer a free firearm safety kit to anyone who owns firearms. The kit includes educational booklets on firearm safety and a gun locking device.
Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program which promotes firearm safety to those who own firearms. The goal of this program is to inform and educate people on key safety issues and it emphasizes the importance of protecting children and preventing injuries caused by firearms that are not stored or handled in a safe manner.

The Guilderland Police Department is comprised of thirty four sworn officers, eleven telecommunicators, three administrative personnel and two animal control officers. The department also oversees the Guilderland Emergency Medical Services Unit. (Web page coming soon). We are committed to providing the highest quality service to our residents and to our visitors. The Police Department consists of a Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Unit, Traffic Safety Unit, Communications Division and a Community Services Unit. There are several sub units contained in the above mentioned entities that are referenced in the following pages.
The Police Department is an Accredited Agency having received accreditation recognition from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services in September of 2009. Officers and employees of the Guilderland PoliceDepartment take pride in their duties and the services they provide. We maintain a strong community policing philosophy and I hope that visitors to this site will help us uphold this philosophy by offering suggestions and actively participating with us. The Mission of the Guilderland Police Department is to:
1. Deter crime and apprehend criminals;
2. Maintain strong police-community relations; and,
3. Continually enhance the training and expertise of each member of the
police force.
The Goals & Objectives of the Guilderland Police Department are:
1. To identify criminal activity, pursue and apprehend criminal offenders, and
proceed in the prosecution of known offenders.
2. To maintain a proactive patrol and investigation force and thus reduce the
opportunity to commit crime.
3. To facilitate the movement of people and vehicles through analysis and
commitment of selective traffic enforcement resources.
4. To perpetuate a sound managerial environment that focuses upon
Department goals and provides for career development through training,
advancement and reward for exemplary performance.
5. To instill public confidence in the agency by maintaining a high degree of
professionalism, dedication and expertise in the development of police
service.
