Some of the CIU's other responsibilities are evidence and property room, accident investigation, photo arrays, pistol permits, employee background checks, peddlers permit backgrounds, professional standard investigations, drug investigations, death investigations, and criminal investigations.

The CIU works closely with other agencies. The agencies the CIU typically work with are the United States Secret Service, Drug Enforcement Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security, Capital District Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, New York State Police, New York State Narcotics Enforcement, Albany County Sheriff's Department, New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, and other area police agencies.
