The Town of Guilderland recently installed an EV charging station on the western end of the main parking lot at Guilderland Town Hall, located at 5209 Western Turnpike. The Town’s action is part of New York State Energy Research Development Authority's ChargeNY program, "which aims to put 30,000-40,000 EVs on the road and install over 2,500 additional public and workplace charging stations statewide by 2018." Supervisor Peter G. Barber added that: “This free charging station is convenient to residents, visitors and Town employees, is good for the environment, and allows the Town to consider other transportation options that could save taxpayer dollars.”
Once approved by the State, the EV charging station is the last step in the Town's initiative to qualify as a Clean Energy Community with NYSERDA. According to NYSERDA's website, "local governments in New York State can use the Clean Energy Communities program to implement clean energy actions, save energy costs, create jobs, and improve the environment. In addition to providing tools, resources, and technical assistance, the program recognizes and rewards leadership for the completion of clean energy projects."
