Coronavirus Third Update - March 13, 2020

Dear Guilderland residents:

The Albany County Department of Health notified the Town earlier today that two additional Town residents in the same household as the first confirmed case have coronavirus (COVID-19).  The household is under home quarantine and no member has been hospitalized.

To minimize personal contact, Town Court proceedings scheduled for Monday, March 16th and Thursday, March 19th are cancelled.  The Town Board’s March 17th meeting was cancelled for other reasons. The Senior Center’s programs are also cancelled through Friday, March 20th.  The Department of Senior Services will continue to provide transportation services for seniors to physician appointments.

All other Town offices remain open.  You may see posted notices at counters about maintaining “social distancing” and avoiding personal contacts.  Please do not be alarmed.  We are following Federal and State health guidelines.  You are encouraged to seek Town services by mail, phone, email, and online on the Town website ( where you have access to a growing number of Town services.

Please note that these measures will have no impact upon the delivery of emergency services.  The uniformed members of the Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Departments are well-trained and equipped to handle COVID-19 cases, and are providing services under guidelines issued by State and Federal authorities.  The Town’s Medical Director, EMS Department and Police Department are closely working with Albany County DOH and NYS DOH on the Town’s response to this changing situation and are ready to take additional recommended actions.

The Guilderland Central School District is closed today and is also closed Monday, March 16th for Superintendent’s conferences.    Please check the District’s webpage devoted to sharing information about COVID-19: We are keeping the Village of Altamont, Guilderland Central School District, Guilderland and Altamont libraries, and the business community informed of developments.
